In May 2025, we started the ambush campaign on Reddit to promote the ‘Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree’ game, a dark, side-scrolling action RPG blending Soulslike combat with Metroidvania exploration in a hand-painted, gothic world.
We selected over 40 popular gaming communities on Reddit, including general gaming subreddits and niche ones, and created 106+ posts about the game. There were reviews, gameplay videos, GIFs, advice-seeking posts, requests for similar game recommendations, screenshots, and other UGC-like formats.
The primary challenge early in the campaign was establishing credible, high-quality content across multiple Reddit accounts. This required extensive parallel playthroughs of the game to generate a diverse and authentic library of gameplay footage — a resource-intensive but necessary step to ensure content trustworthiness and resonance within targeted subreddits.
And we’ve done it. The reaction was highly positive — the themed communities didn’t criticize the project and perceived the content positively. We successfully increased the project's visibility, attracted subreddit audiences interested in the game, and created a positive impression of the title.
